Seco Studios

It was the later half of February 2026, and I just finished tiling the first floor of the house that my dad and I were building. Every typhoon season, year after year, our part of the city is flooded and every year for many years, we had to raise everything we own to higher ground, which is usually just a tabletop or on top of closets or the double decker bed. Every year, year after year, we suffer from flooding, and we cannot afford to move.

Finally around May of 2025, my parents decided we should build a house with a second floor to serve as a refuge for us, our 10 dogs, 4 cats, and 1 pigeon when the typhoon season comes, and on May 28th 2025 my dad and I started digging up the ground to lay the foundations. The problem is, we only had enough money to buy the materials, but no more money to pay for the labor cost. Since my dad is a retired engineer and has had countless projects all over the Philippines under his belt, we decided we will build it ourselves. He taught me everything there is to know about house construction and the right cement mixture for the job and the right materials to use. We started building our own house from the ground up, literally. Just the two of us.. and every friday my uncle and aunt and even my grandpa comes helping us but mostly it's just my dad and I.

On February of 2026 we had been working on the house construction for almost 9 months and we were already so tired and burnt out from it. I just finished the tiling job on the 2nd floor Bathroom. A few weeks before that I also dug up the septic tank of the house which is about 4 foot deep that is 5 feet long and 3 feet wide. It took me 3 days if we total the number of days that I dug it up. It was the most back breaking work I've ever done in my life.

A few days after finishing the septic tank, I decided it was time to start the tiling on the first floor. It took me 9 days, it was a decent tiling job for a first timer.

By this point I was so burnt out and tired from the house construction that I decided I'd play some of the online games I used to play from the past. However, I could not find myself getting excited to launch any of those games anymore. I have already played and maximized the fun out of them. Then I thought: "I'm a programmer.. why not just make a game just to keep my mind off of the construction work.", and that is what I set out to do.

It was never meant to be a serious thing. It was just meant to pass the time and keep my mind occupied. I decided to let the idea pass and settle for a day and I said to myself: "If I am still thinking about making a game tomorrow, then I'll start making one.".

A bit of a background about me. I have been making web pages and websites since I was 12 years old in 2007. I created a forum and started an online community of Pen Spinners in the Philippines called Pinoy Pen Spinning Community in 2009. I have also created college thesis softwares back in my college days for friends (they paid me hehe), and after graduating from college, I worked as a backend developer for a company in my city. After quitting my backend developer job in 2018 I pursued my own ideas and ventures. And since then I have been a full-stack developer and have built fully featured social networking platforms, ecommerce platforms, job posting platforms a few blog sites and side projects here and there, all coded by hand before the dawn of AI and vibe coding. All owned by myself and all are failed ventures but have been very important life lessons and experiences for me.

The Tomorrow. February 23, 2026 as suspected, I was still thinking about making games. My back still hurts, and my hair is the only thing that is not hurting on my body at that point, I decided to just take the day off. It was this day that I decided to finally fire up my PC and start working on a game.

The game was a 3d ball that moves around a 3d space and it was very very basic. I thought about adding obstacles or even enemies or zombies that runs after the player (ball) however, anything that I come up with has 1 very big issue. Asset creation and implementation is very very time consuming and labour intensive. I was already tired from house construction and I just wanted to enjoy a game or at least making one and it became apparent to me very early on that this is going to be another full time job if I decided to pursue it.

That same afternoon, I finally decided to scrap that game idea and settle on a very easy to make 2d game. No fancy animations or assets. I'll draw everything with HTML and CSS and animate them with JavaScript. The controls will be the simplest ones. Just tapping on the sides of the screen to move on either sides. A few hours later, that game became my very first mobile game, and I called it DodgeWall.

I ported the game to android and decided to upload it to Google Playstore. It was the first day I learned how to tackle the bureaucracy of the digital stores. It was another set of hurdles but that is a story for another time.

It was also at this time that I decided to upload the game on a website, but I didn't have a website for games yet. I am really bad at coming up with names, so the easiest way I could think of was to base it off of my name, Joseph Corpuz. Sep Corpuz. Se Co. Seco Studios.

My name is Joseph Renso Bautista Corpuz, and I am the founder of Seco Studios. If you reached this point, thank you very much for your interest, I hope you'll enjoy some of my games if haven't already.

Seco Studios was created to keep my mind occupied from the stress of hard labour, and I hope that my games can also do the same for anyone going through life's challenges. Thank you, and have a great day or night!
